DIY: Hair Accessories

Next Article Previous Article

Spent some time getting crafty with the girls in the office last week & upcycled some of our favorite hair accessories. First up was a hair towel, one that’s perfect for after the shower while you're getting ready for work or play!

For these we used some of our old and worn in towels. These mimic those microfiber hair towels with a little bit of a salty and recycled touch! It’s perfect for anyone with those piles of beach blankets or towels in the garage looking for a fun craft for the weekend.

Second up was the OG Sonny Scrunchie! For these we broke out the steps because they are a must have and great to make with your old linens, towels, or tees! They are also great for your hair as they decrease breakage & eliminate that classic ‘hair tie bend’ when you let your hair loose. Follow the steps below & tag us in your posts of your hair ties with #OGSonnyScrunchie so we can see your spin on it!

Materials:

  • Tape measure
  • Fabric (we recycled tees, towels and linens)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Pins
  • Elastic (1/4")
  • Safety pin
  • Needle and thread

Steps:

  1. Cut your recycled fabric into a 3-1/2-by-22-inch strip.
  2. Fold fabric lengthwise so it’s inside out and pin along the center.
  3. Sew a straight line across the edge and remove pins once you’re finished.
  4. Pull the strip right side out. Attach safety pin at one end and weave the pin through the inside of the tube and pull it out on the opposite end.
  5. Cut a 9 inch strip of elastic and attach pin to one end.
  6. Thread the elastic through the tube.
  7. Remove the pin and tie the elastic into a tight knot.
  8. Fold in the edges to create an even seam and tuck one opening over the other. Pin to hold the fabric in place and sew straight across to join the two sides.
  9. Test out those seams & make sure all is connected.
  10. Throw your hair up & head out!
