Don’t get us wrong, wintertime definitely has its perks. We basically live in our big comfy sweaters, drink copious amounts of tea and gravitate towards any kind of firepit like a moth to a light. But the cold, dry weather of the season can really wreak havoc on our skin. Which is why we like to switch things up a little during the chillier months. Our skin expert Dana walks us through a few ways to keep skin happy and hydrated throughout the season.
The Culprits of Dry, Winter Skin
Climate - Cold air sucks a lot of the moisture from the air this time of year. And from our skin.
Heaters - Cranking up the heat at home, work, school or in our cars feels great while we’re getting all toasty, but it’s a really good way to zap even more moisture out the air around us.
Hot Baths and Showers - This one is hard for us. A hot steamy shower or bath really hits the spot. But unfortunately, this sweet luxury can often strip our skin of its natural moisture. Boo.
We’re not gonna let any of this winter stuff get the best of us though. Here are a few things we do to help us fight against dry, dehydrated skin.
Our Winter Skin Care Tips
These are a few things we try and remember for our skin during the colder months.
Ditch Harsh Cleansers
Find a gentle cleanser. We swear by our Daily Cleanser. It's a hydrating cream cleanser that gently yet thoroughly washes away the day without stripping or drying out the skin.
Hydrate & Repeat
Besides chugging tons of water every day, making sure to hydrate our face with a good serum is key for avoiding tight, irritated skin. Our Hydrating Serum contains a blend of moisturizing ingredients and antioxidants that help add a much-needed layer of hydration before we slather on a moisturizer and SPF.
Don't Forget SPF!
When it's cold outside, it's easy to think you may not need sun protection. But that couldn't be any further from the truth! While UVB rays have a slight seasonal drop they can still contribute to the formation of skin cancer. UVA rays, on the other hand, stay consistent throughout the year. So, it's essential to make sure you are protected even in the winter months. Our Daily Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer SPF 30 or Daily Sunscreen Moisturizer SPF 30 are our go-tos.
Lather On a Night Cream
Our Restoring Night Cream is where it’s at. With a dreamy blend of antioxidant-rich Banana, Niacinamide and Vitamin E it works hard to soothe, hydrate, and nourish our skin while we sleep.
Indulge In Face Masks
We’re talking about the kind we actually like to put on. Whether we decide to spend the whole weekend in our pajamas or just spent hours out on the slopes, using a hydrating face mask can really add a boost of extra moisture to our skin.
Moisturizing Face Oils
Face oils are a big part of our wintertime skin care routine. Some favorites include hemp seed, rose hip, jojoba, or argan oils. They’re perfect for layering on at the end of our nighttime skin routine.
We always wanna take good care of our skin. And we know that doing that means we have to listen to what it needs—every day and every season of the year.
