It was a classic summer day outside when we rolled out of bed and headed down the road to one of our favorite local breaks. Pipes is known for being a mixtape of alternative board riding where nose riders and style masters freely roam. Our full lineup of guest judges including Kaia Howard, Nique Miller, Mele Saili and Andy Davis, narrowed down the local talent to two standouts: ‘Tan Guy’ (aka Anthony) who caught the judge’s eye with his technical maneuvers and ‘Hat Girl’ aka Tyanna, who racked up massive style points, for more than just her hat.

Sort of what we imagine surfing in California was like back in the 50’s, when you knew everyone out there because they were the same few dedicated locals, day after day.
