We've Got Answers

What Are the Benefits of Using a Lip Balm With SPF?

Most people don’t realize their lips can burn—until they do. And yeah, it’s a total bummer. Your lips are just as vulnerable to sun damage as the rest of your skin—maybe even more so since they don’t have melanin to protect them. Using a lip balm with SPF helps shield against UV rays, lowers your risk of sunburn, and keeps your lips from drying out in the sun. Bonus: it also helps fight long-term damage (like fine lines and discoloration) so your lips stay smooth, healthy, and beach-day ready.

What Is the Best Care for Lips?

The best lip care starts with keeping things simple but consistent. At night, gently exfoliate with a soft cloth or lip scrub to get rid of dry, flaky skin. Then, slather on a thick, hydrating balm or overnight lip mask—bonus points if it has ingredients like shea butter or hyaluronic acid. Try not to lick your lips during the day, and reapply balm as needed. A little nightly TLC goes a long way toward keeping your lips soft and happy.

Which SPF Is Best for Lip Balm?

SPF 30 or higher is the sweet spot for protecting your lips from the sun. Look for broad-spectrum protection to shield against both UVA rays (which age your skin) and UVB rays (which burn). Bonus points for tinted SPF lip balm—it gives your lips a subtle pop of color while keeping them safe. It’s sun care and style in one swipe, so you can face the day with confidence (and great lips).

Do SPF Lip Balms Actually Work?

They sure do! SPF lip balms are the ultimate sidekick for your lips—protecting them from UV rays while keeping them smooth and hydrated. Your lips are extra delicate (that thin skin doesn’t have its own sun shield), so they need a little extra care to fend off sunburn and damage. That’s where SPF lip balm steps in, acting as sunscreen and moisturizer all in one. The result? Lips that stay healthy, happy, and ready for whatever the sun has in store.
