Head on straight, mask on crooked

Lenny is one of the most amped and uniquely authentic guys that we’ve have had the pleasure of working with. He wakes up every morning at 3am (more on why below), loves 90's hip hop, and can ride the rails at Big Bear better than 99% of the boarding population you’ll see out there. And while we rarely get the chance to see his expressions (never rides without a face mask) we’re always eager to get the chance to hang around one of the biggest hype men we know.

Check out our impromptu mountainside interview with Lenny below.

Lenny Mazzotti at your service.

Sun Bum:
Where you from?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Big Bear Lake, California.

Sun Bum:
What's your motto?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Head on straight, mask on crooked.

Sun Bum:
Where'd you get the motto?

Lenny Mazzotti:
MF Doom.

Sun Bum:
Tell us the craziest thing you've ever seen on a winter weekend up here.

Lenny Mazzotti:
I've seen some pretty wild s#%$ not gonna lie. I saw a car flip over once.

Feet on a snowboard

Sun Bum:
That's pretty crazy. Sounds like you got a lot of stories.. we’ll save those for later haha.
What did you and your friends do in the summertime here growing up?

Lenny Mazzotti:
When we were younger we were not too bright, and we would get in wagons and go down hills. And the only way you could stop is running into something.

Sun Bum:
Yikes. You ever get hurt doing that?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Oh always. I'm surprised I'm alive.

Sun Bum:
We hear you're from a big Italian family. What does family mean to you?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Yeah, very big Italian family. It means don't mess with us or you’ll find out where Jimmy Hoffa is. Haha.

Sun Bum:
Don’t get on your bad side, got it haha. Do you have a favorite place in the world to ride?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Wow. I have a lot of fun in Whistler, BC. I've had a lot of fun in Japan, but I've only been there once. And then Tahoe. There's just so much going on up there.

Sun Bum:
Been wanting to check out Japan. I think you already mentioned this once, but we rarely see you on the mountain without a mask… do you wear your mask for SPF protection, style points or to stay incognito?

Lenny Mazzotti:
All three. I wear a face mask to protect me from the sun and to hide my face basically, and then I guess for style, too? My face is pretty ugly.

Man applying sunscreen to nose

Sun Bum:
Any particular song/artist that gets you hyped to ride?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Right now it's Aquamarine by Danger Mouse and Black Thought.

Sun Bum:
Go-to cereal?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Cereal? Oh, I got to say Life cereal, the cinnamon one. Easy pick.

Sun Bum:
We heard you like to wake up super early (like 3am?). What does your morning routine look like most days?

Lenny Mazzotti:
I have a four-hour sleep schedule. I wake up in the morning, clean my house, play video games, work out or go on a bike, wax my snowboard, and then head to the parking lot.

Sun Bum:
Clean your house? That’s aggressive. So, you wax up your board every day you ride?

Lenny Mazzotti:
When you're up that much you got to do something with the time. And yeah, I do wax every single day.

Sun Bum:
You're one of the most positive people we know. What keeps the stoke alive?

Lenny Mazzotti:
It's just fun. I don't know. I don't think I'm that positive. I just like to be honest. That keeps me stoked. If I'm having a bad day, I'm having a bad day. That's okay too.

Snowboarder riding down slope

Sun Bum:
Okay. Any word of advice for the kiddos out there?

Lenny Mazzotti:
Just enjoy yourself.

Sun Bum:
There ya go kids, just have fun.
What was it like to judge the first ever Bum Rush in Snow?

Lenny Mazzotti:
That was really cool. Especially because it was not the best weather, it was a little windy, but a lot of people showed up and then a lot of people were ripping.

Sun Bum:
Sick. We have a ‘Would You Rather’ poll going around the office on a weekly basis. For this tweek it’s, “Would you rather drive a 1996 Geo Metro or a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck?”

Lenny Mazzotti:
I'll go with the Cybertruck, always look forward.

Sun Bum:
Thanks Lenny, it’s been great. Let’s ride.
